School Council at work!

The school council in action!

On Tuesday 13th February the School Council met to discuss the suggestions that the children from each class had put in the Suggestion Boxes.

The School Council members from Year 1 to Year 6 were very interested to hear the different suggestions the children have to make our school even better!  Some of the suggestions included: different assembly ideas, after school club ideas, improvements to the library and charity event ideas!

The next job for the school council is to get some of their ideas up and running – watch this space!

Some of the children acting out the Gospel reading

On Sunday 11th February the children from St Joseph’s lead the reading, acting and singing for the Parish Mass in Our Blessed Lady and St Thomas of Canterbury Church in Dudley.

The children did a wonderful job of making Mass extra special and uplifting.

One Year 6 child commented ‘I find reading in Mass an amazing experience.’

Year 3 in their assembly

On Friday 9th February the children from Year 3 shared their learning all about Fairtrade in a special assembly.

The children shared the message of Fairtrade and explained why buying Fairtrade products whenever we can is so important.

Year 3 also reminded us of the values of Grateful and Generous which we are learning about this half term.

Well done Year 3!

Year 5 leading the gathering

On Thursday 1st February the children from Year 5 independently prepared a lovely gathering to share with their prayer partners from Year 1.

The children themed the gathering on the virtues of Grateful and Generous which are our focus this half term.

Both Year 1 and Year 5 enjoyed spending time together to pray and reflect on the values.

Year 1 celebrate St Rose of Lima

Year 1 learning all about St Rose of Lima

On Thursday 8th February the children from Year 1 celebrated their class saint – St Rose of Lima.

St Rose of Lima’s feast day is actually 23rd August, but as this falls in the school summer holidays Year 1 celebrated today!

The children wore their own clothes to school in celebration and learned even more about their Saint and how she is a good example for us to follow!

Year 4 children creating a leaflet for others about staying safe online

Tuesday 6th February was Safer Internet Day!

All of the children in school completed work and activities learning about how to stay safe online, including creating leaflets and posters.

The children have a good understanding of what information they should and should not share online in order to keep themselves safe.

The lovely display created for Mass today

On Tuesday 6th February it was the turn of the children from Years 1 and 2 to lead our whole school Mass.

The children did a fantastic job of explaining today’s Feast Day of St Paul Miki and Companions and how we can try to be like him in our daily lives.

One Year 5 pupil commented on her Mass Reflection: ” I am going to hold the door for people and put other people first.  I will also spend more time helping my parents instead of playing on the X-Box.”

Mission Team Suggestion Box

Our Mission Team Suggestion Boxes

On Monday 5th February our new Mission Team Suggestion Boxes were given out to all of the classes.

The suggestion boxes enable all children to share their thoughts and ideas about R.E, Catholic Life and Collective Worship at St Joseph’s.

Our Mission Team will spend time during the next meeting going through the children’s suggestions.

6C in their assembly

On Friday 2nd February it was the turn of the children from 6C to present their assembly.

The children presented their assembly all about Candlemass – when Jesus was presented at the temple and Simeon recognised him as the Messiah.

The children created a beautiful display and reminded us of why we refer to Jesus as the Light of the World.

Well done children!

Mini Vinnies

Our Mini Vinnies

On Thursday 1st February Miss Wisniewski held a Mini Vinnie meeting with the children who have volunteered to be our new Mini Vinnies.

The children took part in a special service and are already working on ideas for charity work and events – which will be happening soon!
