St. Joseph's Catholic Primary School, Hillcrest Road, Dudley

Key Stage 1

In Key Stage 1 we learn Maths, English and phonics every morning. In the afternoons we study a range of subjects including RE, Science, PE, and ICT. All other subjects like History, Geography, Music, Art and DT are taught through topics enabling children to make links between subjects.

We welcome parents into out classes regularly as we hold termly ‘open lessons’ where parents are invited to join in a lesson with their child, followed by a chat and a coffee with the class teacher to ask any questions.

We are proud that we also run an excellent cooking program in Key Stage 1 where we have two Teaching Assistants trained to deliver a high quality healthy cooking program where children learn how to cook delicious healthy foods which they then take home for their families to try!

We also have expert music teachers come into school to teach recorders to the children in Years 1 and 2.

In Key Stage 1 we have members of the School Council who meet at least once a half-term to discuss a variety of issues and help leader to continually improve out school. The School Council has helped to design our new playground and outside prayer area along with taking part in lesson observation learning walks and feeding back to teachers!

Every class in Key Stage 1 has Liturgy Leaders which help to monitor the R.E and Catholic Life of the school by completing regular audits.

All of the Key Stage 1 children have lots of opportunities to go on visits, we have taken children Clevedon, Dudley Zoo, the Toy Museum, Winter Wonderland and many more places along with having lots of visitors in school too!
