Year 1 getting ready for their assembly

On Friday 11th October the children from Year 1 shared all of their learning about Mary during our merit assembly.

The children acted out some of the special events in Mary’s life and reminded us all why she is so important to us and how she sets a good example for us to follow.

The children did a wonderful job or acting and reading and we are really proud of each of them!

The children during the special gathering

On Wednesday 9th October we joined a live stream with the Archbishop to pray the Rosary together.

The Archbishop, His Grace Bernard Longley, invited all of the schools in the Archdiocese of Birmingham to join him through a live stream and take time to sing and pray together during the special month of October.

It was a lovely gathering where the children were able to join in with the singing and pray with the Archbishop.

Children during their gathering

On Wednesday 9th October the children from Year 4 hosted a gathering for their prayer partners from Year 2.

The children themed the gathering on Mary, as October s one of her special months, and the values of being grateful and generous which we are focusing on this half term.

It was a lovely gathering and the Year 4 children did so well at organising and choosing suitable reading, hymns and prayers to share with their prayer partners.

Well done Year 4.

The special prayer card for the children

Today, Wednesday 9th October is the feast day of Blessed John Henry Newman who will be made a Saint on Sunday 13th October by Pope Francis.

He is the first British person to be made a saint in 50 yrs and lived in Birmingham.

To recognise this important event we held a special assembly to learn all about Blessed John Henry Newman and the miracles he performed in order to be made a saint.  The children have also been given special prayer cards as a gift from the school in recognition of this special event.

During the month of October, one of Our Lady’s special months, we have been learning about all of the mysteries of the Rosary in our classrooms and then coming together as a whole school to pray decade of the Rosary together during special additional assemblies.

The children really enjoy learning even more about the Rosary and the life of Mary and Jesus along with asking Mary to pray with us and for us.

Year 4 acting out the life of St Francis of Assisi

On Friday 4th October the children from Year 4 led our whole school assembly and told us lots about St Francis of Assisi who celebrates his Feast Day today!

We thought about how we had already followed St Francis’ example by giving money to CAFOD today and how we can also look after the beautiful world God created for us through the work of our Creation Guardians.

Well done Year 4 we are so proud of you!

CAFOD Harvest Fast

Friday, 4 October 2019

On Friday 4th October everyone form St Joseph’s took part in CAFOD’s Harvest Fast Day.

The children gave up their playtime snack, to understand what it feels like to be hungry for just a short period of time and gave the money which they would have spent on a snack to CAFOD.

We are so grateful to all of our families for the amount of money they donated – everyone is so very generous.

Thank you!
