Reception class during their special assembly

On Friday 18th January the children from Reception class shared all of their learning about Martin Luther King during their special assembly.

Reception class have been learning about Martin Luther King in celebration of Martin Luther King day which is celebrated on 21st January every year.

Reception class shared information about Martin Luther King’s life, why he was such a special and inspirational person and why he is an example of the way Jesus wants us to treat each other – with kindness, respect and equality – some of our school values here at St Joseph’s!

Well done Reception class!

Year 1’s Prayer Bags

Tuesday, 15 January 2019

One of the prayer bags

On Tuesday 15th January the children from Year 1 received the special gift of a prayer bag from the school to take home and enjoy.

Year 1’s prayer bags were themed on Pope Francis and each prayer bag contained: a green cloth (for ordinary time), a candle and a photo prayer card for Pope Francis.

We hope the children use the prayer bags to pray at home with their families.

Year 5’s altar display

On Tuesday 15th January the children from Year 5 lead our whole school Mass with Fr Louis in school.

The children wrote some lovely bidding prayers asking God to always give us the strength to do the right thing and be eloquent and truthful – which are the values we are focusing on this half term.

The children also read and acted beautifully to help us understand the Gospel.

Well done Year 5.

Daily Mile

Year 3 taking part in the Daily Mile

On Monday 14th January we started a new initiative in school called the Daily Mile.

The Daily Mile was developed to encourage children (and adults) to be more active in school by walking, running or jogging a mile everyday.

We have taken on this idea along with thousands of other schools in England to become more active and healthier.  Each day after either playtime or lunchtime the children walk, run or jog around the playground for approximately 15 minutes to get their hearts beating faster!

The children have really enjoyed starting the Daily Mile!

Year 6’s altar display

On Tuesday 8th January the children from Year 6 lead our first whole school Mass of 2019.

The children helped us to understand the gospel by acting out the Parable of the Feeding of the 5000.

All of the children read clearly and respectfully to help make our Mass extra special.

Celebrating Epiphany

The three Wise Men in the stable.

On Monday 7th January during our first Gospel assembly of 2019 we completed the Nativity scene by adding the three wise men.

Epiphany was celebrated yesterday (6th January) and the children listened to the readings which were shared in all the churches throughout the world before placing the three wise men in the stable.
