Mini Vinnies at work!

Two of our Mini Vinnies at work!

On Wednesday 28th February two of our Mini Vinnies delivered the special CAFOD Fast Day envelopes to all the children in school.

Friday 2nd March is CAFOD Family Fast Day in school where children are invited to give up their playtime snack and give the pennies that a snack would cost to CAFOD in the special envelopes.

Well done Mini Vinnies!

Year 5 celebrate St David!

Year 5 celebrating St David

On Wednesday 28th February the children from Year 5 celebrated their class saint’s day – St David – by wearing their own clothes to school for the day and learning even more about him.

St David’s day is celebrated on 1st March, but as tomorrow is World Book Day and the children are dressing up, Year 5 celebrated a day early!

Year 6 lead Mass

The lovely display created by Year 6

On Tuesday 27th February the children from Year 6 led our whole school Mass.

The children wrote their own bidding prayers which were very thoughtful, read clearly, acted well and brought up the offertory too.

Following Mass the Catholic children from Year 6 received the Sacrament of Reconciliation from Father Emmanuel.

One Year 6 child commented, “Now I have been to confession I feel happy that I have been forgiven”.

A journey through Lent at home

The Lent poster the children all took home

On Monday 26th February the children all took home a special poster which guides them through Lent at home.

The Lent poster gives the children Gospel readings to read, a focus for their prayers of a little activity to complete every day as we take the journey through Lent.

One Year 3 child said “This is great, it’s going to give me something to think about every day!”

Spelling Awards

Our spelling winners this half term

On Friday 16th February we congratulated the spelling and phonic winners for this half term.

Every week the children receive 5 or 10 words to learn at home for a test the following week.  If the children score full marks they receive a raffle ticket to put in the spelling jar and every half-term a winner is drawn and they receive a £5 Tesco voucher!

Well done children!

Our French award winners

On Friday 16th February some of the children from Year 5 were congratulated for their wonderful efforts in French so far this term.

The children all received a special certificate to acknowledge all of their hard work this half term!

Year 2 Assembly

Year 2 in their assembly

On Friday 16th February it was the turn of Year 2 to present their learning in their assembly all about the Lost Son.

The children did a great job of explaining the parable and teaching us why it is important to forgive  others as God forgives us when we make mistakes and are sorry.

Well done Year 3!

Poppy Appeal

Our certificate from the Poppy Appeal

On Friday 16th February we received a certificate from the Poppy Appeal congratulating us on how much money we raising during the 2017 Poppy Appeal.

By helping to sell poppies, wrist bands, rulers etc. in school we raised £371.31!

Well done everyone for being so generous!

Walking the Stations of the Cross

Year 4 walking the Stations of the Cross

On Friday 16th February it was the turn of the children from Year 4 to walk to the Stations of the Cross.

Walking the Stations of the Cross on a Friday is a Church tradition – one which we follow at St Joseph’s.  During Lent all of the children from Nursery to Year 6 walk the Stations of the Cross on a Friday during Lent.

One Year 4 child commented, “I find it sad to think people were so mean to Jesus.”

Children working with their parents

On Thursday 15th and Friday 16th February the children from Year 3 invited their parents into school to take part in an English lesson.

Lots of parents were able to attend and work alongside their children.

One Year 3 commented, “I like showing my mom all the things I can do!”
