Year 2 Assembly

Year 2 in their assembly

On Friday 16th February it was the turn of Year 2 to present their learning in their assembly all about the Lost Son.

The children did a great job of explaining the parable and teaching us why it is important to forgive  others as God forgives us when we make mistakes and are sorry.

Well done Year 3!

Poppy Appeal

Our certificate from the Poppy Appeal

On Friday 16th February we received a certificate from the Poppy Appeal congratulating us on how much money we raising during the 2017 Poppy Appeal.

By helping to sell poppies, wrist bands, rulers etc. in school we raised £371.31!

Well done everyone for being so generous!

Walking the Stations of the Cross

Year 4 walking the Stations of the Cross

On Friday 16th February it was the turn of the children from Year 4 to walk to the Stations of the Cross.

Walking the Stations of the Cross on a Friday is a Church tradition – one which we follow at St Joseph’s.  During Lent all of the children from Nursery to Year 6 walk the Stations of the Cross on a Friday during Lent.

One Year 4 child commented, “I find it sad to think people were so mean to Jesus.”

The first step of our journey

On Thursday 15th February we began our Lent tradition of extra assemblies to explore and pray each station of the cross.

During each of the special assemblies we place a pair of purple footprints to show our journey through Lent.

One Year 3 child said, “I enjoy the extra assemblies as it helps me to feel close to Jesus.”

Ash Wednesday Mass

Year 3 children preparing the altar display before Mass

On Tuesday 14th February Year 3 lead our whole school Ash Wednesday Mass.

The children prepared the readings, wrote their own biding prayers, acted out the Gospel and created a lovely display in front of the altar.

During Mass all of the children, adults and lots of Parishioners received the ashes to mark the beginning of the season of Lent where we are reminded to pray, fast and give alms.

One Year 6 child commented: “I felt a sense of quiet and peace when I received the ashes this morning.”

Pancake Flip!

Children enjoying the Pancake Flip!

On Tuesday 13th February we held our annual sponsored Pancake Flip!

All of the children from Nursery to Year 6 all took part in flipping their ‘pancakes’ whilst negotiating an obstacle course.  All of the children had a wonderful time and enjoyed having fun whilst raising money for charity!

Some Year 3 children commented “We enjoyed flipping the pancakes, jumping over the obstacles and raising money for charity all at the same time!”

Following the Pancake Flip the children were all treated to a lovely pancake to say thank-you for all of their hard work!

Some of the children acting out the Gospel reading

On Sunday 11th February the children from St Joseph’s lead the reading, acting and singing for the Parish Mass in Our Blessed Lady and St Thomas of Canterbury Church in Dudley.

The children did a wonderful job of making Mass extra special and uplifting.

One Year 6 child commented ‘I find reading in Mass an amazing experience.’

Prayer Partner Gathering

Year 5 leading the gathering

On Thursday 1st February the children from Year 5 independently prepared a lovely gathering to share with their prayer partners from Year 1.

The children themed the gathering on the virtues of Grateful and Generous which are our focus this half term.

Both Year 1 and Year 5 enjoyed spending time together to pray and reflect on the values.

Year 1 celebrate St Rose of Lima

Year 1 learning all about St Rose of Lima

On Thursday 8th February the children from Year 1 celebrated their class saint – St Rose of Lima.

St Rose of Lima’s feast day is actually 23rd August, but as this falls in the school summer holidays Year 1 celebrated today!

The children wore their own clothes to school in celebration and learned even more about their Saint and how she is a good example for us to follow!

6C in their assembly

On Friday 2nd February it was the turn of the children from 6C to present their assembly.

The children presented their assembly all about Candlemass – when Jesus was presented at the temple and Simeon recognised him as the Messiah.

The children created a beautiful display and reminded us of why we refer to Jesus as the Light of the World.
